Draw On Swimwear Makes a Splash at Miami Swim Week

From Australia to Miami, with a suitcase full of swimwear, colour and creativity.

In May 2024, Draw On Swimwear made its Miami Swim Week debut, bringing the colourful world of DOS to the runway at PARAISO Miami Swim Week.

And this wasn't your typical swimwear show.

The kids walking the runway weren't simply modelling the collection. They had turned their own swimwear into wearable art, drawing directly onto their pieces and creating looks that were completely their own.

Because what would a DOS runway be without letting the kids do the designing?

From blank canvas to Miami catwalk

Draw On Swimwear has always been about giving kids the freedom to create.

Our swimwear becomes their canvas. They choose the colours, make the marks, add the drawings and decide exactly what their finished piece is going to look like.

For Miami, that idea made its way all the way onto the runway.

The young models customised the pieces they wore, meaning no two looks coming down the catwalk were quite the same.

It was colourful. It was playful. And it was very, very DOS.

For founder Rebecca Collinson-Smith, seeing that idea come to life on an international runway was a pretty special moment.

“Seeing the kids come down the runway in designs they had created themselves was surreal.”

Suddenly, something that had begun with a simple idea – giving kids swimwear they could draw on – was making its way down a Miami catwalk.

Celebrating individuality

The Miami show also captured something that's been at the heart of DOS from the beginning: celebrating kids exactly as they are.

There are no rules about what a DOS creation is supposed to look like.

A child can cover their swimmers in colour, draw their favourite things, create something with a friend or dream up something nobody else quite understands.

That's the point.

It's their creation, their imagination and their chance to make something that's one of a kind.

The DOS character was created with that same spirit of individuality and inclusivity in mind. DOS is simply DOS. And in the DOS world, everybody is invited to come along for the adventure.

Two Australian brands take on Miami

The show was an extra-special moment for Rebecca, with both Draw On Swimwear and her other Australian label, Hunting Hue, making their PARAISO Miami Swim Week debuts.

While DOS brought children's creativity to the runway, Hunting Hue showcased swimwear featuring imagery captured through Rebecca's own photography, including aerial photographs of Sydney landmarks.

Two very different brands, but both built around Rebecca's love of creativity, colour and creating something you won't find everywhere else.

A little piece of DOS history

Miami Swim Week was a big adventure for our little world of DOS.

There were colourful creations. There were very excited kids. There was a Miami catwalk. And there was the rather wonderful sight of children's own artwork being treated exactly as we think it should be: as something worth showing off.

We're diving back into the DOS archives to share some of our favourite photographs from the day.

Because creativity can happen anywhere.

Even on the runway.
