My name is Cheryl Collinson-Smith, and I have had the joy of being a teacher for over 40 years, working closely with young children and nurturing their love of learning , creativity, and storytelling. Over the years, I have come to believe in the power of children’s imaginations - that they can dream big, create boldly, and change the world in small but meaningful ways. DOS - Draw on Swimwear is a celebration of that spirit, and a tribute to the ocean, which has always been a special part of our family’s story.
This story is inspired by my daughter, Rebecca, a passionate and talented designer with a creative heart and a deep love for the sea and a strong commitment to protecting it. She came up with a wonderful idea : children designing their own swimwear, drawing what they feel and dream, wearing it with pride and at the same time, boosting their self esteem.
Her love for the ocean was passed down from her dad, my husband, who was a teacher of Biology and Marine Science for many years. His enthusiasm for marine life and environmental care sparked Rebecca’s passion for protecting the sea and its creatures. Together, as a family, we have walked beaches and gathered plastic washed ashore, always hoping to leave the world a little better.
This story is our way of encouraging children to explore, imagine, and care for the beautiful world beneath the waves - and to create their own splash.
